Dr. Bapna and team,
Thank you for helping my nose get back to where it needed to be, crooked septum, tiny sinus cavities, enlarged turbinates, bone spurs, and even extra cheek sinus holes, and I’m still here!
You have been helpful, professional, and I really appreciate your help through this.
Much obliged,

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR RHINOPLASTY?

The best candidates for a rhinoplasty procedure are healthy individuals who want to improve their nose size and shape. Rhinoplasty is a procedure done to achieve cosmetic enhancement but can also benefit individuals who want to restore their breathing.

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that is highly individualized to suit your appearance goals. The results will be different for everyone. Before considering rhinoplasty, it is highly recommended to set realistic expectations. The decision to undergo this procedure should not come from the influence of others.

Before the procedure, patients will need to quit smoking for at least four to six weeks and avoid drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours. This greatly increases the likelihood of a smooth and comfortable healing process.

YOUR RHINOPLASTY CONSULTATION

A rhinoplasty consultation involves an open discussion of your appearance goals and complete medical history. Dr. Bapna will explain your surgical options and will help you visualize your possible results.

A physical examination will be performed, and your medical history will be discussed. You may need to take a few lab tests to confirm eligibility for the procedure. Once you are approved, Dr. Bapna will plan your rhinoplasty procedure.

To begin your rhinoplasty journey, you will need to prepare a few things to ensure that your health, schedule, and recovery experience are effective and comfortable. Dr. Bapna will give you preparation directions during your consultation. Feel free to ask all questions at this time.

Rhinoplasty General Procedure

The rhinoplasty procedure lasts from one to three hours. The surgeon may elect to utilize either local or general anesthesia, depending upon the complexity of the operation. To begin the surgery, tiny incisions are made which allow the surgeon to access the underlying nasal structure. Once the skin is opened, the cartilage and bone are reshaped to form the basis for the new look. Two basic methods are utilized for performing nose surgery. These methods are referred to as the ‘open’ and the ‘closed’ techniques. The open technique allows for maximum visibility and control over the procedure. The incision used in the open technique is placed in-between the nostrils on the columella. In the closed technique, the incisions are internal. The physician can discuss which technique is best when the patient arrives for the initial consultation visit.

In revision rhinoplasty, ear or rib cartilage may be used to rebuild the nose.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Process

Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time. Some swelling may be noticed; however, most swelling will disappear within a few weeks. A splint, bandages, and/or gauze are applied immediately following surgery to aid in the healing process and to minimize movement of the nose. Patients must refrain from smoking for several weeks before and after the surgery. In addition, any corrective glasses that are worn must be taped up and off the nose. The nose will need to be well-protected from the sun for the first year after the procedure while the body is adjusting to the new look. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with the surgery. Pain can be effectively treated with oral medication and/or cold compresses. While complications are rare, patients can minimize the risk of potential problems by carefully following the post-surgical directions given by the surgeon.

Results

Regardless of technique, the nose continues to heal and improve in appearance for a period of 6 to 12 months.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Occasionally Dr. Bapna recommends non-surgical rhinoplasty using dermal fillers to address nasal deformities. Ideal patients for this technique have subtle irregularities of the nose, sometimes after previous nasal surgery, and just need a slight correction.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

A rhinoplasty is fully customized from the ground up to address the unique needs of each individual. The type of rhinoplasty technique used and the overall complexity of the procedure determine the cost. We will develop a personalized treatment plan and discuss the cost associated with it during your consultation.
