Eyelid Surgery

CONVENIENTLY LOCATED TO SERVE DUBLIN, OH

Eyelid SurgeryAt our facial plastic surgery facility in Dublin, OH, eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) is a commonly performed corrective procedure. This surgery can reduce dark circles or “bags” under the eyes, smooth wrinkles, eliminate excess skin, and provide a subtle lift to restore a more youthful appearance to the eye area.

What to Know about Eyelid Surgery

One of the first things noticed about a person is their eyes. During the aging process, wrinkles, lines, and puffiness in the eye area contribute to a tired or aged appearance. Eyelid surgery is often an ideal solution for rejuvenating the eye area.

Dr. Bapna will customize your eyelid surgery based on your cosmetic concerns and desired outcome. He may recommend upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty), lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty), or double eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty surgery can also be combined with other facial procedures such as a facelift or rhinoplasty (nose surgery) to achieve optimal facial enhancement results.

Reasons for Considering Eyelid Surgery:

  • Dark circles or bags under the eyes.
  • Excessive skin or wrinkles surrounding the eyelids.
  • A tired appearance or puffiness due to inherited factors.
  • Trouble with peripheral vision because of excess upper eyelid skin

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are healthy individuals who want to freshen up the appearance of their eyes. Eyelid surgery can eliminate sagging skin around the eyes to make them look younger and less tired.

Eyelid surgery is highly individualized for everyone. The best candidates are patients with realistic expectations.

Eyelid surgery candidates must not have medical conditions like chronic dry eye, hypertension, diabetes, or heart disease. Those with circulation or thyroid disorders should consider other alternatives. These medical conditions can complicate the healing process after the procedure. Consult with your specialist to get a professional recommendation.

Patients with glaucoma will need to undergo further evaluation from their specialist before considering eyelid surgery.

For a quick and smooth recovery, eyelid surgery candidates must avoid smoking for at least 4 to 6 weeks before and after the procedure. Stop drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours before and after the surgery.

Your Eyelid Surgery Consultation

During the consultation, you will be asked about your eyelid concerns and appearance goals. The two of you will discuss your complete medical history to help Dr. Bapna avoid potential eyelid surgery complications.

Once you are eligible for the procedure, he will give you an overview of the whole process and everything you need to prepare before the procedure.

How to Prepare for Eyelid Surgery

Before your eyelid surgery appointment, request at least 10 days of time off work, since rest is key during recovery.

Make sure to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after the surgery. Have someone help out during the first 24 hours after your procedure; you will need as much assistance as possible to ensure you are recovering properly.

Since your vision and movement will be limited during the initial recovery period, prepare your meals in advance. Include food rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals to aid your body’s healing process.

General Procedure

The surgical procedure includes tiny incisions made in the natural contours around the eyes which should leave no visible scarring. The surgeon will usually work on the upper eyelids first to remove any fatty tissue and tighten loose skin. Lower eyelids are completed next to eliminate puffiness and reduce dark circles.

In some instances, laser technology may be used to smooth lower eyelid areas. Complementary treatments may include Botox injections to firm fine lines and wrinkles.

The surgery generally takes about one to three hours and can be performed in the physician’s office or in the operating room. If additional cosmetic procedures are being performed, the eyelid surgery could last longer.

Recovery Process

Normally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with surgery which can be treated with oral medication.

While complications are rare, patients can minimize the risk of potential problems by carefully following the post-operative directions given after the surgery. The healing process for this procedure is similar to other forms of cosmetic surgery, and the benefits are long-lasting. Patients will have a more rested and youthful appearance.

Are You A Candidate For Eyelid Surgery?

Good candidates for eyelid surgery have excess loose skin on the upper and lower eyelids. Other factors that could help determine if you’d make a good fit are:

  • Having excess fatty deposits that cause puffiness
  • Experiencing impaired vision as a result of sagging skin
  • Being in good physical health
  • Having realistic expectations

As part of your initial consultation, Dr. Bapna will assess your facial structure, facial tissue, and cosmetic concerns in the eye area. The examination, along with a discussion of your medical history and your expected results will allow Dr. Bapna to determine your candidacy.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

The cost of eyelid surgery varies from patient to patient depending on their individual needs. A few factors that contribute to the overall price include the amount of excess skin and fat that needs to be removed to achieve the desired look and the complexity of the procedure.

After discussing your aesthetic goals, we’ll develop a treatment plan that’s designed to fit your needs specifically. We’ll then discuss the cost that you can expect to pay.
